Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff Book Review. *SPOILER FREE!*

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Series: The Illuminae Files, #1

Published: October 20, 2015 by Knopf Books for Young Reader

Source: Hardcover, 608 pages

Summary: This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do today. This afternoon, her planet was invaded.

The year is 2575, and two rival mega-corporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, exes Kady and Ezra – who are barely even talking to each other – are forced to fight their way onto the evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But the warship is the least of their problems. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results. The fleet’s AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what is going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it’s clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she’d never speak to again.

Briefing Note: Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents – including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more – Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.

Rating: 5 stars!

Thoughts: First off, this book is SO cool. Like really.

The way this book is set up is just so neat. I mean, if you have not laid eyes on this beautiful book.. it is so pretty. The little cover photo above is just the start. The hardback is gorgeous. By far the coolest book I own.

So, when it says it is made up of all hacked files.. it really is. Every page is a file of some sort. And each couple pages are totally different. That is one of the things that made me want to keep reading and keep reading, just never knowing what kind of thing was next. It really is so neat, I cannot stress that enough!

The characters. Kady is like my hero. She is so strong-willed and hard-headed and sassy and I just LOVED it! She made me want to go do something crazy, like skydive or something, I don’t know. Haha! Ezra honestly reminded me of my own boyfriend. His personality is witty and goofy and I just really enjoyed it. The two together were also great. Even though they were corny teenagers, it was still always fun to read their IMs and emails to each other.

I did not expect what happened in the book at all. I wouldn’t say it blew my mind or anything, but it was an interesting concept. I really enjoyed the story line and how the plot developed. I never got bored reading this book, I don’t think that is even possible, haha!

There were laughs, and not gonna lie, a couple tears. There were some really emotional parts! I did tear up a couple times. I laughed multiple times, and other times, I felt on the edge of my seat. This book is intense in so many ways. I honestly have so much love for it!

I am curious about other books from these authors now and am looking forward to reading more from them. Even thought book #2 in this series is still untitled with no publication date. Wahhhhhh.

Anyway. If you have not read of this, or heard about it, go get it and read it in like a day, like I did! hahaha. But really.. You won’t regret it!

Thanks for reading! (:
