Uppercase Unboxing – October 2016

Hello readers!

Hey look! I’m on time! Hahaha.

This is Uppercase Box!

Uppercase is a monthly book subscription. There are three different plans to choose from, but I subscribed to the Expert Box. Each Expert box (Or should I say bag) includes one brand new hardcover Young Adult book that is either signed by the author or comes with a signed bookplate, 1-2 exclusive and custom bookish items, and also a unique reading experience for each book.

The box is $23/month plus $6 shipping equaling $29/month!

First look!!

As I always point out, this box does not have a theme, which allows them to select really awesome items that do not have to agree with each thing in the box!

I enjoy it! Let’s look at what we got this month.

Punk Rock Writers Journal by Chronicle Books

Thoughts: This is too funny. This has multiple influential authors, such as Mark Twain, Virginia Woolf, and Emily Dickinson, recreated as modern misfits with a punk rock attitude. So great!

Value: $9.95

Inside of Journal

I just wanted to share what the inside looks like. It has various authors on the pages. It is nice!

Cassette Tape Bookmarks by Studio Ding Dong

Thoughts: These are adorable. I think they are super cute!! I love the little strip that hangs down. Ahh! I love these!

These are from out of the US, I think Japan, but with the link above, you can find an overseas shop that has them available in euros. Not sure if we in the US can actually buy them. /:

Value: 9,90 euros, which converts to $10.77

Vassa in the Night by Sarah Porter (SIGNED) + Erg Character Sticker

In the enchanted kingdom of Brooklyn, the fashionable people put on cute shoes, go to parties in warehouses, drink on rooftops at sunset, and tell themselves they’ve arrived. A whole lot of Brooklyn is like that now – but not Vassa’s working-class neighborhood.

In Vassa’s neighborhood, where she lives with her stepmother and bickering stepsisters, one might stumble onto magic, but stumbling away again could become an issue. Babs Yagg, the owner of the local convenience store, has a policy if beheading shoplifters – and sometimes innocent shoppers as well. When Vassa’s stepsister sends her out for the lightbulbs in the middle of the night, she knows it could easily become a suicide mission.

But Vassa has a bit of luck hidden in her pocket, a gift from her dead mother. Erg us a tough-talking wooden doll with sticky fingers, a bottomless stomach, and a ferocious cunning. With Erg’s help, Vassa just might be able to break the witch’s curse and free her Brooklyn neighborhood. But Babs won’t be playing fair…

Inspired by the Russian folktale “Vassilissa the Beautiful,” and her years of experience teaching creative writing to students in the New York City public schools, acclaimed author Sarah Porter weaves a dark yet, hopeful tale about a young girl’s search for home, love, and belonging.

Thoughts: This sounds interesting! I’m wondering if this is supposed to also be some kind of Cinderella retelling?? Sounds good and I can’t wait to read!

Value: $17.99

Total Value for this Box: $38.71!

This was a good box. I loveee the cassette bookmarks! The journal is cute also!
